Sonna Etienne Foundation

On Friday July 3rd, 2020, Sonna Etienne Foundation hosted an Education Merit Awards and Donation Ceremony to Teachers and Deserving Students at The Balefang Government Elementary School, Menoua Division, Republic of Cameroon in Central Africa. The headmistress of the school and His Royal Highness Chief of the Balefang traditional community chaired the event.

This was a grassroots initiative that aimed at valuing the roles of teachers and education professionals within our society, fostering literacy, academic excellence, self-empowerment, self-esteem, and promoting community – based leadership.

In terms of performance, the Balefang Elementary school has achieved a 100% success rate at CEP State Exams in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Overall, six teachers were rewarded for their special achievements in the critical elementary education sector.

Close to 123 elementary school students received full packages ranging from textbooks (English language, Mathematics, French language), school bags, exercise books, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) tools, merit awards grants and full tuition scholarships for the academic year 2020 – 2021.

In terms of gender balance among the beneficiaries, 65 were females (53%) and 58 males (47%).

Sonna Etienne Foundation is thankful to all donators who contributed to the event planning and operational costs, valued at USD 2, 500.00 (XAF 1, 500 000.00).

Since COVID-19 prevention features among Sonna Etienne Foundation’s core intervention strategies, all attendees, including students, parents, and guests, received a full set of protective devices. The Foundation invited everyone to abide by the preventive measures edited by public health stakeholders, the national government, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centre for Diseases Control (CDC). In this respect, we have designed a set of programmatic public charity projects and will be carrying out several assistance projects within the communities to provide multifarious donations and assistance to people in need.

As a public charity Organisation, Sonna Etienne Foundation is premised on the belief that sustainable development, through access to quality education by everyone, holds the key to solving problems. Without development, there is neither stability nor peace to sustain.
